2. What Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Text input – Text you type or paste for translation, grammar checking, rephrasing, or AI chat.
- Voice input – Audio captured through your device's microphone for speech-to-text translation and Dialog mode. Audio is processed in real time and is not stored on our servers.
- Camera & photo input – Images captured by the camera or selected from your photo library for OCR-based text recognition and translation. Images are processed locally on-device or sent to our translation services and are not retained after processing.
- Support requests – If you contact us by email, we collect the information you include in your message (e.g. name, email address, description of the issue).
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device & app information – Device language, app version, build number, operating system version, and device model.
- Usage data – Session count, premium/subscription status, feature usage events, and interaction patterns.
- Crash & performance data – Crash logs and performance diagnostics collected via Firebase Crashlytics.
- Attribution data – Advertising identifiers (IDFA, with your consent via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt) used for install attribution.
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect precise or coarse location data.
- We do not collect contacts, health data, or financial information.
- We do not store your translated text, voice recordings, or camera images on our servers after processing is complete.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Providing the service – Processing your translations, voice input, camera input, and AI-powered tools.
- Improving the App – Analyzing usage patterns and crash data to fix bugs, optimize performance, and develop new features.
- Subscription management – Verifying your subscription status and managing access to premium features.
- Attribution & analytics – Understanding how users discover and engage with the App to improve marketing effectiveness.
- Customer support – Responding to your inquiries and resolving issues.
4. Third-Party Services
We work with trusted third-party service providers to operate and improve the App. These providers fall into the following categories:
- Analytics & crash reporting providers – To understand how the App is used, diagnose technical issues, and improve performance and reliability.
- Attribution & marketing partners – To measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns and understand how users discover the App.
- AI & machine learning providers – To power translation, speech recognition, text-to-speech, grammar checking, rephrasing, and other AI-driven features.
- Cloud infrastructure & processing services – To process translation requests, voice input, and other data securely and efficiently.
- Subscription management providers – To manage in-app subscriptions and verify premium access.
When you use translation, voice, or AI features, the text or audio you provide may be sent to third-party services for processing. These providers are contractually obligated to process data only for the purposes we specify, and in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Data is processed in transit and is not retained by us or our providers after the response is delivered, except where necessary for service operation (e.g. abuse prevention).
For a detailed list of our current data processors, you may contact us at [email protected].
5. App Tracking Transparency
We use Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. Before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), we will ask for your explicit permission. You may deny or revoke this permission at any time through your device's Settings. If you deny tracking, we will not use IDFA for attribution or advertising purposes.
6. Subscriptions & Payments
The App offers weekly and annual subscription plans that unlock premium features. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment information (such as credit card numbers). We receive only your subscription status and transaction identifiers from Apple and our subscription management provider (Adapty) to verify and manage your access to premium features.
7. Data Storage & Security
- On-device storage – Your translation history, favorites, language preferences, and settings are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage mechanisms (UserDefaults, Core Data, Keychain).
- Keyboard extension – If you use the Translate AI keyboard extension, certain preferences and your premium status are shared between the main app and the keyboard via a secure App Group container.
- Server-side – We do not operate our own servers that store your personal translation content. Data sent to third-party APIs (OpenAI, DeepL, Microsoft, Reverso) is processed in transit and is not stored by us after the response is delivered.
- Security – Sensitive data such as your premium status and API credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain. All network communications use HTTPS encryption.
8. Data Retention
- Analytics data – Retained by the respective analytics providers according to their standard retention policies (typically 12–26 months).
- Crash data – Retained by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
- Support requests – Retained for up to 120 days after resolution to ensure quality follow-up.
- On-device data – Stored until you delete the App or clear the data manually.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries outside of your country of residence, including the United States and the European Economic Area (EEA). Our third-party service providers (including Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Amplitude) may transfer and process data internationally. Where required by law, such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission or equivalent mechanisms.
